Dilinoleic Acid/Butanediol Copolymer Description

Dilinoleic acid/butanediol copolymer is, as the name suggests, a polymer consisting in part of linoleic acid, a fatty acid, and butanediol, a humectant commonly known as butylene glycol. When combined, the blend offers film-forming properties that can help skin retain moisture.

While this polymer can in part be derived from vegetable oil, it is lab synthesized. Along with film-forming, it’s used in cosmetics as a texture enhancer.

While the amount of independent research regarding this polymer is scarce, there are no indications thus far that there is reason to be concerned about its safety.

Common use levels of dilinoleic acid/butanediol copolymer in cosmetics is 1–5%.
